Singer Hariharan is an India based singer who has been known for his unique style of singing and his acting interests. An incredibly humble man who once said in an interview that he never sung for winning an award has received many respectful awards for his passion. The prestigious Lata Mangeshkar Samman Alankaran award was awarded to him by the Madhya Pradesh Government in the year 2013. This famous Bollywood Playback Singer is the ranked as the 28th person to receive the award. Back in the year 2004 he also received the Padma Shri for his contributions to the field of singing.

When Hariharan received the Lata Mangeshkar Alankaran Award, he expressed his delight talking about how unexpected it was for him. He performed in the year 2000 in the Alankaran Awards, and four years later to that he received one. This award is given in every alternate year. He is very fond of Lata Ji which increased his happiness two folds on winning the award. Anything related to Lata Ji matters to Hariharan very dearly. On his visit to Madhya Pradesh for the prize he was delighted by the rich culture in the state. It is a musical state as mentioned by Hariharan and appreciated the welcoming people there.

Very delightfully Hariharan talked about the moments that he and Lata Ji have shared together at times. They both are close with family relations. Her magnetic personality has always been welcoming to everybody. She is a lady who could praise a person for their excellent singing skills as well as not refrain from rebuking when they sing badly. Hariharan is also fond of Lata Ji’s sense of humour as she is very witty and loves to talk. When asked about the modern music and the changing face of today’s music he seemed very comfortable with it.

As per his words, he is very comfortable with the change and said change is in inevitable. At some point, a particular kind of change was brought by singers like AR Rehman, Bappi Lahiri and Panchamda. The same type of change is happening today with the modern age singer. The new music is different today like it seemed different decades ago when those singers came into existence. He added that for shooting a scene where youngsters are dancing with a discotheque scene, only a rap song could be suitable. People who think that rap songs are a threat to the culture are misguided. The new form of music is as much as music as is the classical music.

His views about receiving an award are to not run after it. Just work passionately, and people will recognise you, ultimately you will win something that will honour you. True talent never goes unnoticed. Above all, receiving an award and not accepting one does not make you any more or less of an artist. If you are a singer, singing should be in your soul. You should understand everything in a song from line to line and tone to tone. That is how a successful musician is born.

The fan following of Hariharan is enormous, and he is loved for his golden voice. He has also appeared in quite a few movies to explore his interests but says acting is tough.
